I’m barely a few minutes into what promises to be a lengthy dinner when I realise my predicament. With all those dishes on offer at an all-you-can-eat buffet, where am I to start and how am I to proceed? My capacity for food consumption is sadly limited and all the choices are spoiling me.
Crave Wine Bar & Restaurant’s dinner buffet boasts a fresh seafood station with cooks at the ready to prepare your order. It features several roasts: roasted fish with Thai herbs, crispy roasted chicken in red wine sauce, and roasted lamb. And there are also platefuls of old cuts and cheeses, right beside sushi and sashimi. All are very inviting and ready for the taking.
And let’s not forget the lobster soup, the seared salmon with dill cream sauce, the steamed fish with chilli and lime sauce, the stir-fried mushrooms with shrimp and the red curry with duck.
Better to try and sample them all, I guess. Together they make for an enjoyable if almost overpowering culinary experience. You can pick and choose, mix and match, and carry on masticating to your heart’s content.
You can wash it down with red or white wine (250 baht a glass) or sip artfully made cocktails (290 baht apiece). Of the latter, the Raspberry Cinnamon Sizzle and the Vanilla Berries Caipiroska are especially recommended for those with a sweeter tooth.
The eatery’s delightfully retro interior design boasts a color scheme harking back to the 1970s. That is a definite plus in a city where at many a restaurant the latest fads of oh-so-trendy designs tend to dominate.
This eighth-floor restaurant is bound to appeal to the party animals, Thai and foreign, who head to Sukhumvit Soi 11, Bangkok’s famous party street.
The waiters are friendly and attentive and communication will certainly not be a problem.
After an hour or so of polishing off plates — with intermittent respites — I’m ready to call it quits. Trouble is that the desserts still await. The banoffee pie is excellent and the blueberry cheesecake isn’t too shabby either.
My calorific intake has been boosted plenty enough tonight to last me a week of not eating. Come to think of it, though, what else is the point of a high-end all-you-can-eat buffet than to allow a gourmet to turn into a proper gourmand?
