Banjoo BBQ bills itself as “The Best Korean BBQ in Bangkok.” That’s because the founder, Lauren Kim created Banjoo BBQ when she couldn’t answer friends wanting to know where the best Korean BBQ in Bangkok was. She had no intention of opening a Korean restaurant (her parents had run a Korean restaurant for many years on Sukhumvit Soi 16), but she had no response to the inquiries of her friends and she recognized a market opportunity.
In 2015, Lauren opened Banjoo BBQ on the second floor of Mille Malle on Sukhumvit Soi 20. The 60-seat restaurant is tastefully decorated in black, grey and white, with a cement floor, unfinished concrete and rustic brick walls. The Spartan interior is punctuated by exposed metal ducts and a cooker hoods hovering over each dark wood dining table. This results in an industrial chic atmosphere that is free from cooking smoke and smells that often plague Korean BBQ joints.
Lauren believes that “food prepared with care and love is always the food that comforts and nourishes us.”. It’s why she puts so much effort into sourcing quality ingredients. All of the dishes on their menu use ingredients free from antibiotics, hormones, preservatives, and MSG. The pork, chicken, and prawns are organic, procured fresh and never frozen and they only serve premium Australian free range Black Angus beef. Additionally, to ensure that the beef is always tender and delicious for grilling they wet age for 20 days all of the cuts themselves.
Each meat dish includes complimentary side dishes that can be topped up include kimchi, stir-fried Chinese spinach, cooked corn with butter, cloves of garlic, Chinese cabbage, small rolled omelets, and green salad. All that’s left is to decide what you want to BBQ!
For the beef connoisseur, Banjoo BBQ offers some serious premium cuts on their menu. A thick steak of Ribeye (690 baht) is a satisfying cut that pleases everyone. For the more adventurous, try a super tender and flavorful dish of Wagyu Tongue (390 baht).
If beef isn’t your thing then try some of their alternate meat options such as Chicken (350 baht) or thick cuts of Pork Belly (350 baht). All meat dishes are served with 3 traditional sauces, sweet, spicy, and salty.
Other must try dishes on Banjoo BBQ’s menu that will help you round out the meal and have a delicious Korean dining experience are the very traditional Soondooboo (300 baht). This authentic Korean spicy soup is made with silky tofu in a rich fish broth seasoned with chili powder, and is served with hot steamed rice. Another favorite side dish that never disappoints is the large Kimchi Pancake (320 baht), a crisp pancake the size of a small pizza that is filled with spicy fermented kimchi and octopus.
No Korean BBQ would be complete without a few adult beverages. At Banjoo BBQ you can enjoy your grilling fun with malty beverages directly imported from Korea. Hite (160 baht) and Cloud (190 baht) are popular Korean beers to temper the kimchi heat! For a real Korean experience, make sure to make a few toasts from a bottle of Soju (290 baht) or Classic Makgeolli (350 baht), a Korean rice wine.
Whatever you decide to eat or drink, you’ll definitely enjoy some of the best Korean BBQ in Bangkok when you visit Banjoo BKK!
